## Property & money recovery

Property here means land and building — a house, a plot, a flat or commercial premises. Most of these disputes come down to two questions: what do the documents actually say, and who is in possession.

## Family disputes

Marriage, separation, support and children. These matters are decided in the Family Court, and they turn as much on documents — income, expenses, what was agreed — as on what is said in the hearing.

## Tenancy

Renting of houses and commercial premises, governed since 2019 by the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants Act, 2017, and decided by the Rent Court rather than an ordinary civil court.
